Emotional brain

What is emotion?

.

▪️An emotion is a feeling such as happiness, love, fear, anger, or hatred. It's caused by physiological changes occurring as a response to some event.

.

▪️The mood is a pervasive and sustained emotion that colors the person's perception of the world.

.

These are the core parts of the brain that are involved in perceptions and evaluation of situations that give rise to emotions:

🧠cerebral cortex

🧠limbic system

🧠brain stem

.

Emotional symptoms such as happiness and sadness are regulated by the prefrontal cortex and amygdala.

.

The amygdala is the key limbic structure that has a critical role in emotional expression. Its role is to evaluate the emotional valence of stimuli. Studies show that animals with amygdala lesions have difficulty learning associations between environmental stimuli and emotional states. The amygdala is involved in what is called “emotional memory.”
