Resveratrol and its health benefits.

Resveratrol is part of a group of compounds called polyphenols. It is a plant compound that acts as an antioxidant.

.

Resveratrol is a naturally produced compound that has been well researched for its potential health benefits. Clinical studies administering 75 to 500 mg/day have shown that resveratrol can benefit: vascular and heart health, cognitive and mental performance, bone mineralization, physical activity, positive modulation of the gut microbiome, eyesight, and oral inflammation. It’s worth knowing that oral intake of resveratrol has a relatively low bioavailability.

.

Here are the most important human studies to tell you what effects Resveratrol has on your body:

Resveratrol, at doses between 250-500mg of the trans-resveratrol isomer, has been noted to increase cerebral blood flow in healthy human subjects.

Resveratrol, per se, has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity when supplemented by obese persons at 150mg daily. There appears to be an increase in insulin sensitivity seen with resveratrol at doses low enough to be achieved via wine consumption.

10mg resveratrol appears to improve left ventricle function slightly

In humans, up to 5g have been taken with no side effects outside of some intestinal upset and nausea.
