Rumination before sleep

šŸ‘‰What is the most common psychological reason why people canā€™t fall asleep?

šŸ‘‰Rumination

.

ā—ļøRumination is the repetition of the same thought in your head over and over again. A habit of rumination can be dangerous to your mental health.

.

Hereā€™s what to try on your own to stop ruminating before sleep:

1ļøāƒ£Try the cognitive refocusing technique. This involves selecting (before you go to bed) a competing pleasant motivator to distract yourself with. If you like horse riding, you might imagine yourself riding a horse in the woods.

.

2ļøāƒ£Schedule a worry break during the day. Give yourself a few minutes to worry and ruminate. When timeā€™s up, itā€™s time to move on.

.

3ļøāƒ£Let go of what you canā€™t control. Ask yourself ā€œwhat can I change, if anything?ā€ If you cannot change the situation, let it go. For things you can change, set up a list of small goals, and make the appropriate changes.

.

4ļøāƒ£Practice 4-7-8 Breathing. Inhale for a count of four, hold for seven counts, and then blow out for eight counts. Do this at least five to seven times, and your heart rate will slow way down.
